Applied Artificial Intelligence integrates the curriculum development efforts on AI across Applied Computing, Computer Science, and Cybersecurity. The emphasis courses focus on AI algorithm development and applying AI to approach practical application problems. Applied AI emphasis will provide students a firm understanding of AI technology, its applications, and its use cases. Students will be able to master concepts and tools including machine learning, statistical analysis, and data analytics in applied computing. Students with an Associates of Applied Science degree from community college can transfer up to 75 credits to the Bachelor of Applied Science program.

Applied Computing: Cloud Computing

In the Cloud Computing emphasis, you will become familiar with the complicated infrastructure related to virtualization, Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. The course outline provides a baseline on virtualization technologies, introduction to cloud technologies, as well as courses focusing on Amazon and Microsoft, with advanced discussion topics on cloud computing.

Applied Computing: Dev Ops

The DevOps emphasis teaches core principles of Applied Computing, enabling you to develop a solid foundation in statistics, programming, networking and cybersecurity. Courses focus on the development and application of DevOps to approach practical application problems in secure computing. In this emphasis, you will gain hands-on, interdisciplinary experience alongside peers and expert faculty.

Applied Computing: Information Management

The Information Management emphasis prepares students for careers in database administration, data analysis and engineering, web development and information architecture. Applied Computing: Network Operations

Our modern world depends on complex communications and computing network to function properly and safely. Network Operations professionals are the people that defend these networks and ensure they operate at peak performance. Network Operations students learn the engineering and operational activities required to create, operate and defend these networks. The curriculum includes theory, operational labs, modern network architecture, advanced routing and switching, systems administration, cloud computing, network defense, wireless networking and network security. Network Operations graduates are prepared to take on a wide variety of IT-related positions in the private, public and government sectors. Students with an Associates of Applied Science degree from community college can transfer up to 75 credits to the Bachelor of Applied Science program.

Applied Computing: Software Development

Students in the Software Development emphasis learn a variety of software fundamentals, including object-oriented and system programming, UNIX, mobile app development, web programming and secure computing. Students learn by doing and create a variety of software applications under the guidance of faculty. The Software Development emphasis prepares students for a variety of positions, including Software and Web developer, Data Engineer, Mobile App Developer and Data Analyst positions. Students with an Associates of Applied Science degree from community college can transfer up to 75 credits to the Bachelor of Applied Science program.

Applied Science: Administration of Justice

The Bachelor of Applied Science with an emphasis in Administration of Justice offers an interdisciplinary approach to criminal justice, procedural constitutional rights, contemporary issues in law enforcement, terrorism, immigration and border security, with an emphasis on research, analytical and critical thinking skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Students with an Associates of Applied Science degree from Community College can transfer up to 75 credits to a specific UA program.

Cyber Defense

The certificate in Cyber Defense gives students the skills necessary to design defensible network architecture. Students employ active and passive defensive technologies and arm those defensive technologies with tactical Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI). They learn how to conduct Network Security Monitoring (NSM) and Threat Hunting operations, to respond to security incidents and defend against advanced cyber threats.

The curriculum includes both offensive and defensive cyber security content delivered within our state-of-the-art Cyber Virtual Learning Environment to ensure our students have extensive hands-on experiences to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to succeed after they graduate. The Engineering Track is a deeply technical, interdisciplinary, security focused Computer Science program. The Engineering Track meets the National Security Agency (NSA) Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Operations (CAE-CO) academic requirements.

The Cyber Law & Policy emphasis is a unique program that combines highly technical, hands-on cyber curriculum with a strong foundation in national and international law, strategy, and policy relevant to cyber professionals. The technical cyber courses conform to the academic requirements from both the National Security Agency’s Centers of Academic Excellence in Cyber Operations (CAE-CO) and Cyber Defense (CAE-CD).

Cyber Operations: Defense/Forensics

Digital Forensics

The certificate trains students in incident response as well as various digital forensics, including: mobile device forensics, host (Windows) and network (Linux) forensics and advanced memory forensics. Upon completion of the certificate, students are highly qualified to conduct digital investigations in the corporate, non-government and governmental environments.

Early Childhood

The Bachelor of Applied Science in Early Childhood instills knowledge of curriculum design, pedagogy, classroom management and human development and behavior. Emphasis on effective written and communication skills will provide a strong foundation for working and interacting with young children from birth-eight years old. Students with an Associates of Applied Science degree from community college can transfer up to 75 credits to a specific University of Arizona program. The BAS in Early Childhood program does not lead to teacher certification in Arizona.

Elementary Education

Pathways to Teaching is a new, innovative College of Education Teacher Preparation Program that seeks to “grow our own” teachers by supporting Tucson-area residents in earning a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with an ESL endorsement. Developed by Marcy Wood, Pathways Program Director, the program is a collaboration between the college’s Department of Teaching, Learning and Sociocultural Studies and Sunnyside, Nogales, Douglas, and Sierra Vista Unified School District. Pathways to Teaching offers students an opportunity for their community to invest in them as a future educator for local schools. Prior to submitting this application, you must first complete the professional admissions process to Pathways To Teaching with the College of Ed.

Human Services

The BAS degree in Intelligence & Information Operations offers three subplans, both in-person and fully online: Operational Intelligence, Law Enforcement Intelligence, or Information Warfare. The Information Warfare track is focused on both offensive and defensive Information Operations. This track provides graduates with the skills necessary to detect, protect, and craft advanced information operation campaigns. The Operational Intelligence track meets all of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) Intelligence Community - Center of Academic Excellence (IC-CAE) academic requirements.

Organizational Leadership & Regional Commerce: Organizational Leadership Emphasis

The Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Organizational Leadership and Regional Commerce provides graduates with the critical business, leadership, communication, and management skills needed to be immediately employable in professional management and supervisory positions. Students learn the psychology behind effective leadership, the core tenants of business practice, the fundamentals of organizational behavior and team leadership, as well as participate in hands-on project management. Students may choose from one of the two emphasis areas: Organizational Leadership or Regional Commerce. Students with an Associate of Applied Science degree from an AZ community college can transfer up to 75 credits to a UA Bachelor of Applied Science degree. The Organizational Leadership emphasis prepares students for leadership roles in a variety of organizations, including corporate, non-profit, military, and government entities. This emphasis focuses on the processes of effective leadership, with a special focus on the Leadership Triangle; specifically, Leaders, Followers, and Environmental contexts. The Organizational Leadership emphasis is ideal for students already working in their fields, but who desire promotions into leadership and management positions.

Organizational Leadership & Regional Commerce: Regional Commerce Emphasis

This emphasis provides students with the fundamental business knowledge and required skills to analyze and understand the various factors driving economic growth and change in regional settings such as border communities or rural areas.

Psychology

The BA program emphasizes real-world applications through community engagement, and is designed for students who want marketable skills they can use to enter the workforce immediately upon graduation.

Secondary Education

The M.Ed. in Secondary Education offers a pathway for students with a Bachelor's degree - as a member of a robust learning community, you learn to teach by doing it! The award-winning M.Ed. program in Secondary Education at the University of Arizona Sierra Vista is committed to preparing teachers with the dispositions and skills to work for middle and high school students in Arizona border schools. Our context-specific focus on preparing teachers for the borderlands of Arizona involves developing in candidates an appreciation for their students' and their own racial/ethnic backgrounds and socioeconomic status. Thus, critical analyses of the emerging teachers’ sociocultural, sociopolitical, and socioeconomic positionality are central for those in the M.Ed. program. In addition, interrogations of power in school settings occur across the M.Ed. curriculum. This work is accomplished by knitting together clinical experience in partner schools with carefully crafted coursework. New teacher learning is supported by a robust professional learning community of peer learners and teacher leaders in our partner schools.

Security Computing

The College of Applied Science and Technology offers the 18-unit undergraduate certificate in Security Computing. Students in the Security Computing certificate program use Python programming language to solve cybersecurity problems and conduct digital investigations. Students develop, debug, execute, and deploy offensive and defensive python scripts, develop algorithms, determine the complexity of the algorithm, and identify cases in which the algorithm would/would not provide a reasonable approach for solving the specific problem.
